Judge Blocks Rule Ending Duration of Status

A federal judge has blocked a DHS rule that would have ended the longstanding “duration of status” system for F-1 students, J-1 exchange visitors, and I visa holders. The rule was scheduled to take effect on September 15 and would have introduced fixed admission periods, including a four-year maximum for most students and exchange visitors. The preliminary injunction means the existing system remains in place, including the 60-day post-completion grace period for F-1 students, while the legal challenge continues
